Kiddo has been wanting to learn how to paint her nails to a heart-breaking degree. I’ve always been hesitant to let her do it because 1) that’s going to stain and 2) I don’t want to give up my pretty polishes. I have to have it after a backpacking incident with an inadvisable pair of boots. I won’t go into further detail.
Side note: For the backpacking novice, big toe boxes are your friend.
I finally relented after I saw this awesome idea on Facebook. I don’t remember who originally posted it, but if anyone finds it or knows who it was, I’ll give them the credit here. Major props to this person and my handy-dandy newsprint end roll.
The smile that crept across her face once she figured out what we were doing was worth every ruined polish.
First, we traced our hands with a washable marker. You don’t want to use Sharpie. Don’t ask me how I know.
Then, we drew on some fingernails, named our salon, and got to work. Kiddo went with a classic pink and teal set up while I opted for grey on one hand and red on the other. It looked quite Chic in my honest opinion.
With the end roll, all I had to do to clean up was crumple up the paper, put it in the bin, and then get kiddo to wash her hands. We’ve still got some marker going on the hands, but we’re stuck inside, so it doesn’t matter. She’s getting a bath tonight anyway.
